Valerie Willis, PhD, RN, PPCNP-BC, PCNS-BC, is a Visiting Assistant Professor-Clinical Division in the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, where she collaborates with an interprofessional team to champion patient/family-centered genomics care through development and implementation of education and training to upskill NICU RNs and advanced practice providers. Doctoral coursework at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-National Institute of Nursing Research Summer Genetics Institute and the Emory University Summer Exposome Course culminated in a PhD in Nursing and Health Science from the University of San Diego. Subsequently, Dr. Willis completed a two-year Fellowship in Genomic Medicine Program Management co-sponsored by the NIH and American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. She is dual board certified as a pediatric clinical nurse specialist and nurse practitioner with expertise in neonatal intensive care and high risk infant neurodevelopmental follow-up. Along with implementation science, her research interests include the impact of diverse environmental exposures on health and development in early childhood, as well as ethical, legal, and social implications of genomics research in the pediatric population. Dr. Willis has presented nationally and internationally and is published in peer reviewed journals.
