Assistant Scientist
Henry Ford Health
Dr. Ashlee J. Vance is a neonatal health equity and health services researcher in the Center for Health Policy & Health Services Research at Henry Ford Health, located in Detroit, Michigan. Prior to her research role, she worked clinically as a NICU nurse in Level 3 and 4 units. Her research is dedicated to promoting health and health equity for high-risk and medically complex infants and their families by aligning healthcare practices with family-focused values and addressing the social determinants of health that may result inequitable care. Dr. Vance has progressively expanded her research focus from direct patient care, to parenting outcomes, to health services and equity research to advance our understanding of an infant's healthcare journey and its impact on family health & economic well-being. She is currently the PI of a funded-project focusing on disparities in medically complex care and financial hardship where she will be following families from NICU admission through the 1st year of life. She also has projects focused on parent-provider communication, perinatal mental health, and parenting self-efficacy. Dr. Vance has been a member of NANN for more than 10 years, presenting at conferences, volunteering on committees (e.g., small grants and research), and a member of the ANC editorial board.
