Tamara Currin, MS, MCHES is the Director of U.S. State Government Affairs with March of Dimes Office of Government Affairs. Tamara has dedicated her career to the public health, non-profit arena with a passionate interest for issues and policies affecting the health of women and children. Her expertise lies within the areas of family preservation, women’s health, HIV and cancer prevention, teen pregnancy, and maternal and infant health. In her tenure with March of Dimes, Tamara has served in a variety of capacities including a multi-state government affairs role that required direct navigation of varying legislative structures and languages to yield passage of law.
At present, Tamara utilizes this wealth of experience to guide March of Dimes staff in achieving policy victories in an assigned portfolio that includes half of the states within the organization’s Market footprint. Policy initiatives focus on improving access to quality healthcare, supporting healthy women and babies, and increasing research and surveillance in maternal and infant health.
Tamara completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Science in Health Promotion and Health Education. After holding certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist for the early part of her career, Tamara was chosen, due largely in part to her policy successes, to be a part of the inaugural class of Master Certified Health Education Specialists as designated by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.
