Bobbie Terrell is a long time member of NANN. She began her nursing career in 1985 in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at The Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. The NICU was the largest in central Virginia and was one of the first hospitals to offer ECMO as a life-safing treatment. The unit was ~ 65-70 bed NICU in the 80s but downsized as more NICUs opened in the area. The name has changed several times and is now VCU Health. The unit was one of the first NICUs to go to the single room design with room for 40 beds (technically) with 4 additional step down beds in the nursery. Although times have changed, Bobbie has stayed there and advanced from bedside nurse, to transport nurse, to Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. After nearly 40 years of nursing, 28 years of that as an NNP, there is no where else she would rather be. She has remained full time at VCU Health her entire career and has moonlighted at other hospitals in the central Virginia area. Bobbie is passionate about her tiny patients. Her interests are thermoregulation, NEC, PICCs, developmental care, the medically complex discharge, and the tiny baby. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loves her place on the Rappahannock River. And she enjoys visiting wineries, cideries, and breweries with her friends.
